programmatically load an sfz file?
  • Hello,

I am working on a VST host, so I am insterested not on the sfz file format but on the other side of sforzando.

Is there a way for a VST host to programmatically load an sfz file into sforzando?

As far as I can see, this is not forseen in the MIDI standard or VST 2.4
specs. You can set programs, banks, parameters etc. but they are all
numeric, so there is no way to pass an sfz file name. Are there any extensions for this purpose? Would it be possible with VST 3.x and is sforzando supporting that?

Right now, my users can load the sfz file manually and then save the
state of sforzando in a chunk file. This can be restored later on by the
VST host. But the problem with chunk files is, that they usually cannot
be transferred to other systems because of the absolute file paths to
the sfz file. The path might be different on another system. It would be
nice if sforzando had a documented and readable chunk file format. Then I could always correct the path.
